Rules and Guidelines
- The Annual Decoration Day is the 4″‘ Sunday of May The grounds are open for visitors every day
- All plots are to be used for the purpose of burial of human remains only, no animal burials.
- Burial plots at Ricetown Cemetery are assigned at no cost. There will be
- no sale of burial plots. Any transfer or reassignment of any plot must have approval by the Ricetown Trustees.
- 4″ corner markers must be installed in such a way that the plot is
- clearly marked and designated by last name. Markers must be flat such that a mower will be able to mow over them.
- Trees, shrubbery and other vegetation shall not be planted on burial plots
- or common cemetery grounds unless approved by the Ricetown Trustees.
- Caretakers have been granted permission by the Ricetown Trustees to
- remove any trees, shrubbery and other vegetation including flower arrangements that hamper the care and upkeep of the c;emetery without_ notifying the family of the deceased. Please remove any arrangements on top of the grave within 30 days following Decoration Day. Arrangements placed in vases or on top of head stones will be permitted.
- The Ricetown Trustees must approve all major improvements, the maintenance of common grounds, and buildings.
- No wire, steel or wooden fencing around plots shall be permitted.
- Burial vaults used for interments are required in the cemetery and shall be made of material approved by State Laws of Alabama.
- All plots are subject to the guidelines of the cemetery and its future amendments.
- Monuments without interments, including the interment of cremated
- remains: Monuments and other memorials for individuals who have not been buried in the cemetery, or whose cremated remains will be entombed will be permitted; however a plot shall be requested and approved prior any monument or memorial being erected. No other historical markers shall be placed in the cemetery without the prior approval of the Ricetown Trustees.
- AII monuments shall be made of marble, granite or standard bronze,
- unless otherwise approved by the Ricetown Trustees.
- Any monument that becomes cracked or broken will be placed in such a way not to be a threat of danger to any person visiting the cemetery.
- Repair or replacement is not the responsibility of the Ricetown Cemetery.
- The Ricetown Chapel is to be used for the Annual Decoration Day, Funerals and other memorial services. All other use requests must be
- Submitted to the Trustees for approval.
- There is no charge for burial plots at the Ricetown Cemetery. However, the Ricetown Cemetery depends on donations for the care and upkeep of the grounds and the facilities. It Is encouraged that generous donations be made to the Ricetown Cemetery Fund.
- Donations are taken each year at the annual Decoration Day celebration on the 4th Sunday of May. You can also mail them to Michelle Frye, Secretary/treasurer
Records and Plot Questions
If you would like to discuss obtaining a plot at the Ricetown Cemetery, you should contact one of the Trustees listed below and schedule an appointment. After meeting with the trustee and choosing a cemetery plot(s), clearly mark the plot(s) with the guidelines of the cemetery (see Guidelines for Ricetown Cemetery #3 on the reverse side of this document.) By marking your plot, it will take care of any possibility of anyone using your plot by mistake and will help the Trustees in knowing which plots have been reserved.
NOTE: Do not mark a plot without first speaking with a Trustee.
